Promoting International Research Collaboration
Promoting Projects of the East Asian Core Observatories Association (EACOA) and the East Asian Observatory (EAO)
As one of the member institutions (listed below) forming the East Asian Core Observatories Association (EACOA) , NAOJ collaborates with the other three institutions in East Asia through participation in projects of the EACOA.
EACOA Member Institutions
- Japan: National Astronomical Observatory of Japan (NAOJ)
- China: Center for Astronomical Mega-Science (CAMS)
- Republic of Korea: Korea Astronomy and Space Science Institute (KASI)
- Taiwan: Academia Sinica Institute of Astronomy and Astrophysics (ASIAA)
Furthermore, the East Asian Observatory (EAO) , run by the above EACOA member institutions and the National Astronomical Research Institute of Thailand (NARIT), operates the James Clark Maxwell Telescope (JCMT), located at the summit of Maunakea, Hawaiʻi, while the EACOA's primary project is the management of fellowship programs. The OIR acts as a contact point at NAOJ upon coordinating with the other member institutions to handle these managerial and administrative tasks of EAO/EACOA.
Reviewing Agreements & Memoranda for International Collaboration
The OIR is responsible for conducting preliminary reviews for legal documentation, and assists administrative coordination in the approval process for signing agreements and memoranda for international collaboration.
Specifically, upon receiving a request from a project, the OIR provides services intended to help ensure that legal documents entered on behalf of such project are properly administered. These services include reviewing draft agreements to confirm whether there are any legal issues or linguistic problems and drafting contract proposals customized to fit the needs of individual projects.
Providing Support for Organizing International Events
The OIR provides support for organizing NAOJ hosted/sponsored international conferences, meetings, workshops, or seminars held in Japan.
